The Mount Vernon Estate hosts a busy weekend of fall-themed events and demonstrations from the 18th century, beginning October 23. It’s fun to learn about the old ways of life, including beer-making and spinning demonstrations, and the hay maze is always a popular attraction. It’s a great time of year to learn more about our nation’s first president by touring his home, farm, distillery, and gardens.
Concerts at Capital One Arena

Down in the Reeds
Down in the Reeds is a day-long music festival on October 9. This festival hopes to focus the healing power of music on the D.C. community as it spotlights local music and artists. There’s also a smattering of music and art workshops, community activism, and musical historical exhibits.
The festival happens at The Parks at Walter Reed, 1010 Butternut St NW, approximately a 17-minute drive from the Connecticut House Apartments.
Taste and Shop Georgetown
As many as 35 of D.C.’s most praised eateries showcase their finest dishes and paired wines for the Taste and Shop Georgetown event from October 5-25. Live music, more than 65 participating shops, and family-friendly activities round out this annual autumn event. Let the kids explore the world of balloon artists, caricature drawings, and jugglers while you sample the many divine dishes for an out-of-the-ordinary autumn afternoon.
The top chefs in the area put their skills to the test at the chef showdown, where their dishes are judged for best use of seasonal ingredients, best overall dish, and best way to satiate a sweet tooth.
