But residents still rely on the city for work and the occasional night out. And with no Metro station in the community, it might seem like a tough place to live for the urban commuter. Well, fear not. You can still take full advantage of the DC’s expansive public transportation system, and we’re going to show you how.

With these resources at your disposal, getting anywhere in DC will be as easy as a walk through the park!
A Resource for New Cathedral Heights Residents
This neighborhood draws a diverse crowd consisting of diplomats and IMF employees from around the world! It is lined with Colonial and Tudor style homes, spacious lots, and awnings of mature trees making Cathedral Heights an attractive place to be! Why would you ever want to leave? Unfortunately, many of us have to work in more active areas of the city, or even out of state. We’re going to make the journey together so that you can become a pro-commuter within the Cathedral Heights Neighborhood!
Getting Familiar with the Cathedral Heights Neighborhood
Since there’s no metro station in the immediate area, we’ll need to get familiar with some options. The most accessible Metro station, if you have a car or are willing to walk 20 minutes, is the Cleveland Park Metro station with service on the red line.
If you don’t have a car and don’t wish to walk, taking a Metrobus to Dupont Circle station is your best bet for red line service. Two Metrobus stops within close proximity have regular routes to the Circle.
Public Transportation into the Heart of the City
Cathedral Heights to Dupont Circle
If you are not in the walking spirit, Cathedral Heights Transit buses are a short ride from Dupont Circle Metro station which brings you right into the heart of Washington DC! Take the N2, N3, N4, or N6 into the city center! Stay on the red line towards L’Enfant Plaza and gain access to all six lines of the metro which cover the entire DC metropolitan area.
Cathedral Heights to Bethesda
For those who want to live in the quaint sanctuary of Cathedral Heights but work at Walter Reed Medical Center, NIH, or surrounding offices the redline towards Bethesda is very accessible. After hopping on the metro from one the local transit buses, you can take the red line from Dupont Circle all the way to Medical Center.
Cathedral Heights to IMF
Treasury department workers will find a lovely and convenient home in Cathedral Heights. Just walk up to Pennsylvania Avenue and take the bus toward Friendship Heights, getting off at I St & 19th.

The Cathedral Heights area is a quaint sanctuary within the city of Washington DC. The neighborhood’s desire to remain subway free has become a lifestyle choice among the beautiful parks, mature trees and foliage which encompass the area. It may seem on the surface not to be the ideal place for those wanting to make use of the public transportation for their commute, but it’s actually pretty convenient for those who require both seamless urban mobility, and a charming neighborhood to call home.
