Cleveland Park is a beautiful, community-driven neighborhood in DC’s Northwest Quadrant. It appeals to people who want to enjoy a neighborly and suburban community – not unlike those you would find outside of DC – without straying too far from the DC neighborhoods they like to work and play in.
Because Cleveland Park is not one of the most walkable neighborhoods in the city, many of its residents rely on DC’s public transportation system to get to work each day as well as navigate the city in their off-hours. In this guide, we want to introduce new residents to the neighborhood and help them get a picture of how they can take advantage of public transportation to get around.

Getting Familiar with Cleveland Park Station
Cleveland Park residents have access to the city via Connecticut Ave NW. In addition to being one of the main retail and dining hubs for the area, it’s also where you’ll find Cleveland Park Station with service on the Red Line as well as several Metrobus stops.
Getting to the station is simple. Most residences and apartments in the area are within close proximity. For those that aren’t, there are many bus stops along Connecticut Ave that provide service to the station entrances.
Cleveland Park Station has two street-level entrances on opposite sides of Connecticut Ave NW. It doesn’t matter which escalator or entrance you use because Cleveland Park Station has a center platform with access to Eastbound and Westbound trains.
Westbound trains travel along the Red Line toward Maryland, giving residents who work at the NIH or the Medical Center a quick and convenient commute to work. Going East toward Metro Center Station will allow you to transfer to the Blue or Orange Line, and the Green and Yellow lines can be accessed via Gallery Pl-Chinatown Station.
Cleveland Park to Georgetown
Cleveland Park offers a seamless commute for Georgetown University students and others who work in the area.
Georgetown students and faculty can take the Metro to Dupont Circle Station. There, they can take advantage of the free GUTS bus which shuttles back and forth from Dupont Circle Station to the campus.
For those who aren’t affiliated with the university, just take the Metro to Dupont Circle Station and transfer to one of the bus routes with service to Georgetown.
Cleveland Park to Downtown DC/IMF
Those who work downtown can take the Red Line to Farragut Station North. From there you can walk or take a bus to your destination.
Cleveland Park to U St.
For a night on the town, Cleveland Park residents can get to U St. by taking the Red Line to Gallery Pl-Chinatown Station, transferring to the Green line headed toward Greenbelt, and getting off at U St. Station.
Alternatively, taking the Yellow Line toward Fort Totten will get you to U St. Station as well.
The Lay of the Land
One of Cleveland Park’s greatest strengths is its seamless access to the Red Line. Residents get the best of both worlds by being able to live and work in DC while still having a charming and community-minded area to call home.
