The Foggy Bottom Traveler

a real map with destination flip a coin.

Living in the Foggy Bottom community is a great choice for young professionals looking to be close to work and close to the fun as well. It’s a neighborhood that’s right next to the center of our government, making it a great spot for law students and rising politicians. On top of that, you’re so close to the Potomac that it makes for a great place to spend an afternoon enjoying the scenery and the breeze off the river!

However, convenient living isn’t the only advantage to renting an apartment in Foggy Bottom. When you make this neighborhood your home, you have access to not one but three metro lines – blue, orange, and silver. And, if you don’t feel like taking the metro, Capital Bike Share can be found on most street corners.

If you’re new to the area, check out our DC Public Transportation Commuter’s Guide to get yourself set up with a Smartrip Card and the inside scoop on the metro lines!

Get To Know Your Station: Foggy Bottom-GWU

The Foggy Bottom-GWU Station is located right on the George Washington University campus, making it the ideal stop for students on their way to class. Not only that, you can find it right on the intersection of busy I Street and 23rd Street Northwest, making it a convenient location for professionals on their way to work.

From the Foggy Bottom station you can catch several different lines. Take the orange line out to New Carrollton, Maryland or head out to Virginia and check out Vienna.

The silver line will ride you all the way out to Reston, so if you’re needing to catch a plane, this is a quick way to get to Dulles Airport

Head even further out of the city on the blue line, which will take you all the way to Franconia!

To get to the station from Circle Arms Apartments, all you’ll have to do is take a quick 3 minute stroll down 24th street! Take a left onto 23rd street and you’ll find the station.

Take a Bus Through The Area

The metro isn’t the only way of getting around Foggy Bottom. You can also take one of the buses that go through the area!

Bus 32 and bus X1 both stop right at the Foggy Bottom-GWU metro station, which means that if you’re coming from another part of town you can easily switch to the metro line. It’s also good to know that if you need to pick the bus up and head to a different part of town, it’s still the same 3 minute walk from Circle Arms!

One important thing to note with the buses is the rush times. In the mornings, buses run every ten to twenty minutes. Buses run every 7-15 minutes during peak rush times in the evening. In the middle of the day and late at night, however, buses only come every 30 minutes. Keep that in mind so you don’t get stuck too far from away your DC apartment home!
