Georgetown DC, home to Georgetown University, is a vibrant and youthful neighborhood in the Northwest Quadrant. Surrounded by some of the capital’s best shopping, dining, and nightlife, many residents don’t own a vehicle. If you’re moving to Georgetown, you might be wondering about the city’s robust public transportation system and what your daily commute will look like.
We encourage you to read our DC Public Transportation Commuter’s Guide. It walks through getting a SmartripⓇ Card, explains the various Metro routes, and so much more
Getting to Know the Metrobus
Georgetown does not have a Metro station close enough for practical daily use. However, the neighborhood has a generous number of Metrobus routes that can help you navigate the city.
Luckily, riding the Metrobus is pretty straightforward. The G2 Bus has multiple stops throughout the neighborhood and provides residents with a convenient way to get around the city. You can see the G2’s full schedule and route here.
Other options include the D2, 38B, and other 30 series routes here.
Commuting from Georgetown to Dupont Circle
Georgetown residents can easily get to Dupont Circle via the G2 Bus. Just walk to your nearest G2 stop and hop on board. The trip should take around twenty minutes.
From Dupont Circle, you have easy access to any location on the Red Line via Dupont Circle station.
Alternatively, you can take the D6 bus toward Stadium-Armory and get off in Dupont Circle.
Commuting from Georgetown to Downtown DC
If you are headed downtown, you can take the 31 or 33 Wisconsin Avenue line and get off at the stop nearest your final destination.
Alternatively, you can take the 38B depending on the day, time, and your starting location.

Commuting from Georgetown to Bethesda
As mentioned above, you can get anywhere on the Red Line by simply taking the G2 or D6 bus to Dupont Circle Station and riding the Metro to your destination. If you want to live in Georgetown but work at the Medical Center or elsewhere in Bethesda, you can commute via public transportation in under an hour!
