Mount Pleasant Commuter’s Guide

Table of Contents

Mt Pleasant is a charming neighborhood known for its suburban character, emphasis on local business, and convenient location. Those who are new to the area or moving here soon might be wondering about the convenience of commuting in DC through the city’s robust public transportation system.

If you plan to live in Mt. Pleasant and enjoy everything it has to offer while working elsewhere in or around the city, you’re in luck! While it might not be the most convenient location for public transport, most people should be able to navigate the city with ease. Roughly three-quarters of current residents don’t need a car to get to work.

Before we get started, if you haven’t already, we invite you to check out the DC Public Transportation Commuter’s Guide, which walks through getting a SmarTrip®️ Card, gives an overview of the system, and so much more.

Nearest Metro Station and Metrobus Routes

The nearest Metro Station is Columbia Heights Station with access to the Green and Yellow lines. Depending on where you reside in the neighborhood, this station can be a short walk away or just a little too inconvenient for a daily commute.

Luckily, Mt. Pleasant is served by the Metrobus 42 and 43 routes. The 43 operates during rush hour only. The 42 operates most hours during the week and reduced hours on weekends. Check out the full schedule here. By taking one of these buses, you can access the Red Line via Dupont Circle Station in around 15-20 minutes depending on how far the nearest stop is.

Mt Pleasant to Bethesda MD

For those who want to live in Mt Pleasant but work at the Medical Center or elsewhere in Bethesda, your commute by public transit should take under an hour. Take the 42 or 43 bus to Dupont Circle Station and board the train heading toward Grosvenor.

Exit the train at the Bethesda or Medical Center Station and proceed to your final destination. Easy peasy!

Mt Pleasant to Downtown DC

If you live near 14th or 16th and are leaving in the morning, the S1 route headed toward Potomac Park provides convenient access to downtown. The trip should take around 30-40 minutes.
